Great place to stop for a quick bite! We've driven by this restaurant too many times to count on our way to Colorado, but it's always on a weekend and they're closed. We finally drove by on a Tuesday and got to try it. The sandwiches are delicious, especially with their specialty bread (I had the Laredo on a jalapeño cheddar bun), and the service was outstanding! We might have to time our trip when they're open next time!

For the Ballinger area this restaurant can't be beat! Food was prepared perfectly although this is west texas cuisine. Don't be shy and eat fast food when you can have a go-to food stop that is this good. Burgers are smash burgers from scratch and the daily special is just that "special" Dont be put off by my photos... we couldn't put our food down. And did I mention the home made cookies...okay so we both ate ours before the main course....enjoy this establishment. It's not Zinter's Daughter but in Ballinger it will always be my first choice. AA++

Good food. Had the quiche, salad with strawberry vinaigrette, and strawberry fluff. It was wonderfully delicious. The inside is lovely. They did a wonderful job of bringing back the original stain glass and wood. I don't think this place is called the soda shop, but it's called the sandwich shop. It's on the town square right at the corner. Would come back again if we were in the area.

Found this place as we were passing through on vacation. The history in this building is fantastic. I got the Rio Grande chicken sandwich with the jalapeño cheddar bread - SO good. The kids meals seemed a bit over priced for what they got but we all loved the homemade cookies that came with our meals and the server was great!

This was our halfway point between San Antonio to Lubbock, and we wanted to try a place local. The service was fast and friendly, the food was timely, and the meals were delicious. The fresh bread complimented the sandwich ingredients so well, and it was nice ending our lunch with a sweet treat, a cookie of our choice. Also, we came here with our 3 year old, and one of the employees found his toy truck at our table, and found us outside 5 mins later. Saved us from having a meltdown later. Definitely making this our normal pit stop.

Main Street Soda Fountain is a wonderful sandwich shop and soda fountain in downtown Ballinger which is making the most of one of their beautiful historic buildings. As you drive up and walk in you can only be amazed at the beautiful detail of the woodwork, stonework, stained glass and ornate ceiling. You receive a warm welcome as you enter in and find a table. There are two dining rooms, one in front and one in back. The one in front faces Main Street. The one in back faces a beautiful little square where there are trees, a gazebo and a water feature. If you go in the side entrance, you can see a white board announcing the daily special. Otherwise you can order off the menu as I did. I ordered the Waldorf chicken salad sandwich on squaw bread. The sqaw bread is a very dark and delicious bread with a hint of molasses. The other options are white or wheat. The sandwich was well-built, generously portioned, economically priced and served in a basket with my choice of sides. I chose the chips and a pickle. All sandwiches also come with a complementary cookie: chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, or peanut butter. Everything tasted homemade and was very fresh. They have a variety of drinks. I chose my usual fresh brewed iced tea. While they only serve unsweetened iced tea, the tables have your choice of sweetener available. There is only one bathroom, gender neutral. Very clean. My server was very friendly and engaging, welcoming me as if I was an old friend. I met several locals with whom I had an interesting conversation talking about the old days of Ballinger, my dad's hometown. It turns out we knew several people in common. So it was quite nostalgic for me personally, but I believe that anyone would really enjoy this restaurant which is open from 11 AM till 3 PM. It will certainly be my choice for lunch time whenever I'm back in town.
